Exodus 18:9 Jethro was delighted to hear about all the good things the LORD had done for Israel.
SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 27:7-14_________________________________
We want God to hear us when we speak._____________________________________________
God wants us to hear when He speaks. Luke 11:27-28__________________________________
HOW SHALL THEY HEAR: Romans 10:13-15____________________________________________
1. How can they hear unless someone preaches?_______________________________________
2. Did they hear? Of course they did but not all accepted the Good News. v.16-18
a. Luke 4:14-21 Jesus is the Good News.____________________________________________
JOHN HEARS AND ACCEPTS THE GOOD NEWS: Matthew 11:1-5__________________________
1. When John heard in prison; v2____________________________________________________
2. He asked, “Are you the one who was to come?” v3____________________________________
3. Jesus said, tell John “the blind receive sight and the lame walk”________________________
a. cf. Isaiah 35:4-6______________________________________________________________
YOU MUST ACCEPT JOHN BEFORE YOU CAN ACCEPT JESUS
John is great among men born of women. Matthew 11:7-11_____________________________
1. John is the fulfillment of Malachi 4:5-6______________________________________________
2. John’s calling from birth. Luke 1:13-17______________________________________________
3. He who has ears to hear, let him hear. Matthew 11:13-15___________________________
4. Elijah, Moses, and Jesus meet to talk about the future. Matthew 17:3-8_______________
a. Peter, James and John finally understand (hear) what Jesus has been saying. v9-13____
Special points of interest:
No one knows what strength of parts he has till he has tried them. - And of the understanding one may most truly say, that its force is generally greater than it thinks till it is put to it. - Therefore the proper remedy is, to set the mind to work, and apply the thoughts vigorously to the business, for it holds in the struggles of the mind, as in those of war, that to think we shall conquer is to conquer.
